Social Music Artist Marcus H. Mitchell is not only an established saxophonist and pianist; he is also the CEO and President of 24th Music, a division of MHM Entertainment Group—a multi-faceted entertainment company. What is SOCIAL MUSIC? Marcus's music embodies a vast array of eclectic nuances, allowing him to explore his musicianship without any restrictions. Therefore, as a listener, Marcus's music will take you on a journey through any type of setting, providing an array of experiences related to all things social.
The dream began while Marcus was attending Crossland High School in Temple Hills, Maryland. One of his biggest accomplishments was getting the group Destiny's Child to perform at President George W. Bush's victory party in 2001. By 2001, Marcus graduated from high school with a 3.8 GPA and was on his way to Raleigh, North Carolina's Shaw University, the oldest HBCU in the South, studying communications and business.
In 2002, Marcus snuck into a club to play with one of his heroes, pianist Marcus Johnson! "THE REST IS HISTORY." While attending Shaw, Mitchell operated 24th Music out of his dorm room and secured his first distribution deal with EMI-Lightyear in 2005 at the age of 21. He performed all around Raleigh with the N-Tune Band, and his name quickly became well known, making him one of the most viewed acts in the Triangle area. Marcus was rapidly making a name for himself, and by his senior year in college, he was able to obtain an investment from the VP of Wachovia Bank to help jumpstart 24th Music. Marcus graduated with honors from Shaw University in 2005. From a classical perspective, Marcus performed at the legendary Kennedy Center on numerous occasions early in his career.
Marcus has worked with many artists, such as Sam Moore, Ronnie Laws, Mike Phillips, Kim Waters, Steve Cole, Marcus Johnson, Chuck Brown, Sugar Bear of EU, Little Benny, El DeBarge, Chico DeBarge, Tevin Campbell, Walter Beasley, Branford Marsalis, Carl Thomas, Keri Hilson, Regina Belle, Jordin Sparks, Scott Ambush, (bassist for Spyro Gyra), Janelle Monáe, Gary Taylor, Ledisi, and Destiny's Child, just to name a few. Mitchell has had the opportunity to perform the national anthem at sporting events, most notably at several Washington Wizards NBA games.
On September 5, 2005, Labor Day weekend, Marcus performed at the 3rd Annual Guantanamo Bay Jazz Festival at Cooper's Field in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Marcus shared the stage with Paul Taylor, Peter White and the Rippingtons (featuring Russ Freeman). Marcus is currently on tour with legendary comedian Tommy Davidson for the highly acclaimed Jokes & Jazz/Funny Music tour.
Marcus and his company, 24th Music, are committed to the company's motto of "Creative Music with Substance," which is demonstrated in all of his works and those of other artists under 24th Music. Not only does Marcus’s MHM (Marcus Horatio Mitchell) Entertainment Group serve as the parent company to 24th Music, but it is also in conjunction with 24th Endeavors, an investment entity involved in projects ranging from real estate to technology, hospitality, and entertainment: (LIVE 24), (Digital 24), (24th MEDIA), (MHM MUSIC WORKS), A17 music distribution, and Three Sheets of Music Publishing. MHM MUSIC WORKS not only produces works for artists outside of 24th Music but also produces music for major television networks, most notably NLSE (NEXT LEVEL SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT).
In 2014, Mitchell launched M-Hydration/M-SELECT, a luxury water brand. In 2016, Marcus launched MHMIC, “The Marcus H. Mitchell Instrument Collection,” a boutique musical instrument manufacturing company that is the first African American-owned custom multi-music instrument manufacturing company in the world.
